Success Stories

Poor Annie was filthy, matted and emaciated when she was picked up as a stray and taken to a high-kill shelter in Los Angeles. Despite having lived on the streets, Annie had a lovely temperament and was a favorite of the shelter staff. However, there were no adoption prospects for Annie. The shelter was overcrowded and it was Annie’s "last weekend"; she was slated for euthanasia on Monday. Then, on Sunday, to everyone's amazement, she gave birth to a litter of five tiny puppies.  Nobody had even realized that she was pregnant, and it seemed unlikely that the puppies could possibly survive, as Annie was in such poor health and the puppies were so small and frail. But the shelter staff was determined to find help and Annie and her puppies were taken in by our partner rescue group, Life 4 Paws, and placed in foster care where they were loved and nurtured. Annie turned out to be a fabulous mom and was even able to nurse an additional puppy who had been orphaned! Once Annie's puppies had been weaned, they were spayed and neutered and wonderful homes were found for all of them, but still nobody wanted to adopt poor Annie as she was an "older" dog. So after Annie had been spayed, she was flown to Vancouver to find her forever home. Once she had been treated for a urinary tract infection and had received some much needed dental work, Annie was adopted by a wonderful family in Harrison Hot Springs where she is now living the good life and enjoying daily walks on the beach.

***An update from Annie’s family:

"Just thought I would give you an update on Annie.  She is wonderful and loved by all.  She had a visit to the vet for a quick check up and everything seems to be going good for her.

She enjoys her bath, tolerates her teeth cleaning but still fights me on the brushing but I get it done, I tell her I just do it to make her pretty.

She has bonded really well and absolutely adores us as we do her. We are constantly amazed at how good she is.  She spends time with our daughter's dog (a one year old chocolate lab called Harley) and they get along great.  Harley loves to swim so is in the lake every time she comes for a visit but I don't think Annie will ever swim, she won't even put her feet in the water and looks at Harley like she is crazy.....haha!

We tell everyone we meet her story of rescue and I would like to thank you again for saving this little soul that has brought so much joy to us."
