Ayla
was rescued from a busy shelter in Los Angeles where she had been
"red listed" and was slated for euthanasia. She had never been
properly socialized and she was fearful and aggressive towards both
the shelter staff and potential adopters. Ayla was in a
desperate situation and her time was running out. With the
help of our partner rescue group, Life 4 Paws in LA, Ayla was
rescued and flown to British Columbia so that she could be given a
second chance at life.
We believe that
Ayla had spent her entire life confined to a wire bottom cage, as
the pads of her feet are permanently splayed, and it appears that
she had been used for breeding purposes. When she first came
into our care, Ayla's fear made her extremely difficult to handle.
She had clearly been neglected and she was malnourished and terribly underweight; she had likely missed
many meals in the past and she was very protective of her food.
Over time and with a
great deal of patience and consistency from her dedicated foster
mom, Ayla gradually learned to trust people and her confidence began
to grow. Once she realized that the meals would keep coming,
her food aggression improved. After gaining some weight, being
spayed and receiving some much needed dental care, Ayla was ready
for adoption. But finding the perfect home for Ayla proved to
be quite a challenge and after spending fifteen months in foster
care, Ayla's foster mom decided to adopt her as a permanent member
of the family. Ayla is enjoying her new life on the Sunshine
Coast and she loves playing with her canine siblings and foster
siblings. She will be treasured for the rest of her life and
will never have to endure hunger or neglect again.
