Cory
was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter in northern British
Columbia. He was never claimed and was deemed unadoptable by
the shelter staff because he was fearful and reactive to being
touched on the sides and rear of his body. Cory was rescued in
a co-operative effort between Donna's Corgi Rescue and Furever After
Small Dog Rescue. He was flown to a foster home in the Lower
Mainland so that he could be thoroughly assessed and rehabilitated.
Cory was examined by a vet
and X-rays were taken to confirm that he was not in pain and that
there was no physical explanation for his reactivity. There
were no problems found with Cory's ribs, hips or shoulders, but he
did have a few severely abscessed teeth that were extracted.
He then spent several weeks in a loving foster home where his foster
mom gradually worked on building his trust until she was eventually
able to touch him all over his body without having him snap at her.
Cory was adopted by a
fabulous lady in Langley who had previous experience with dogs like
Cory and was eager to continue working with him. Cory's new
mom has lots of time to spend with him and she takes him for several
walks a day to the local park, where she meets up with her friends
who have dogs and everyone has a wonderful visit. Cory is
enjoying the calm and quiet atmosphere in his new home and his
confidence is improving in leaps and bounds; he will even roll over
for belly rubs now, which is something he would never do before!
