Success Stories

Dexter came into our care after being surrendered to a local shelter.  He was morbidly obese and he was in desperate need of veterinary treatment for numerous abscessed teeth, which were causing him a great deal of discomfort.  Dexter was placed in a loving foster home so that we could get to know him better, while providing him with the care that he needed.  His foster parents fed him regulated portions of good quality food , while ensuring that he received plenty of exercise and Dexter gradually began to lose the extra weight.  After taking some time to recover from his extensive dental surgery, which involved thirteen extractions, Dexter was feeling great and his energy level had improved dramatically.  His foster parents could barely keep up with him any more!  We knew that Dexter was finally ready to find his forever home.  He was adopted by a lovely lady in Nanaimo who is committed to helping him maintain a healthy body weight.  His medical needs will never again be ignored and he will be loved and cherished for the rest of his life.

***An update from Dexter's mom:

"I recently took Dex on a little road trip to visit my sister and brothers.  We traveled to Vancouver, Victoria and Pender Island.  Everyone just loved our little guy and he behaved like the gem he is!  I now have lots of dog-sitting offers if I ever manage to take a vacation.  He's down to 19 pounds now and he has lots of pep.  He loves our walks and he enjoys being out in the back yard with me while I mow the lawn or work in the garden.  He still follows me everywhere (unless I'm vacuuming -- he just hates that!)  So we're very happy and I'm just delighted to have him."

"It's a year now since I adopted Dexter and I just wanted to say that it was the best decision I ever made.  He is the sweetest dog I've ever known and my family and friends just adore him!  He's healthy and happy and he's been a wonderful companion.  So thanks again for what you do and thanks for letting me give Dex a home."
