Success Stories

Emmet was rescued from the streets of Taiwan.  He lived as a stray in a fishing village, where he was fed scraps by the street vendors. One day a vendor saw some drunken fishermen throwing rocks at Emmet and his neck was badly injured.  The vendor contacted ARTT, a local rescue organization, who treated his wounds.  They also neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated him.  He was so young and sweet that the Taiwanese rescuers wanted him to have a better life, so they reached out to Canadian rescuers for help.  One of our Directors heard about Emmet's story and wanted to give him the second chance that he so badly deserved, so Furever After Small Dog Rescue agreed to take him into care.

When Emmet arrived in Canada, he was very thin and malnourished.  His foster mom also noticed that he was limping badly and he seemed quite uncomfortable.  A veterinary consultation confirmed that Emmet was suffering from bilateral luxating patella's and he would need surgery on one or both of his knees in order to lead a healthy, active life.  After he had gained a bit of weight and was deemed to be healthy enough, he had surgery on his right knee, which was definitely the worst of the two.  Emmet's recovery was amazing!  He had been in pain for so long that the surgery brought him immediate relief.  And now that he was no longer having to compensate for his right knee, his left knee didn't seem to bother him any more either.  So it looks like he may not need a second surgery after all!

Emmet is a gorgeous boy with a luxurious, softly textured coat and he has a wonderful disposition.  He's cuddly, energetic and goofy in his mannerisms.  He's smart, learns quickly and he really wants to please, so it's easy to see how his foster mom fell madly in love with him!  She couldn't bear to part with him and she decided to adopt him as a permanent member of the family.  At this point, we don't think that Emmet's left knee will require surgery, but we will be there to offer our assistance if Emmet needs our help in the future.  In the meantime, Emmet's new mom plans to train him as a therapy dog as she feels that he has the ability to bring a great deal of comfort to the elderly and infirm.
