Success Stories

When Jordy came into our care at the age of three, he had already endured considerable stress and heartache in his short life.  Through no fault of his own, he had been re-homed numerous times due to a series of unfortunate human related circumstances beyond his control.  He had also been de-barked as a small pup, simply as a matter of course, because of breed reputation.  As a result of all of the instability in his past, Jordy was a highly anxious little dog, especially in unfamiliar situations.

Thankfully, after being neutered, tattooed, micro-chipped, updated on his vaccinations and having his teeth buffed and polished, Jordy found the perfect forever home with a young lady in Vancouver. Jordy's new mom has a calm, quiet demeanor and an endless amount of patience.  But most importantly, she is committed to standing by Jordy for the rest of his life.

***An update from Jordy’s mom:

"I'm so happy to say that Jordy has seemingly really come out of his shell in the short time he's been with me.  He really does seem comfortable and renewed and, to be honest, I wouldn't have even known that he is a dog with anxiety issues had I not known any better.  We've been working on gradually leaving him alone for longer periods of time as the week goes on, and it really doesn't seem to bother him.  In fact, when I left this afternoon, I peeked through the crack of the door right before I shut it, and he had already trotted halfway back to the living room rather than panting and pacing and "freaking out".  I haven't seen any destructive behaviors whatsoever!  In addition, he is much more comfortable letting me out of his site when I'm home.

All-in-all, Jordy has made literal leaps and bounds in such a short time!  My little comedian brings me so much joy and I really do feel and hope that I'm providing a great, warm and loving home for him - he seems very happy and content.  I really can't imagine my life without him!"

“I just wanted to say hello and send a few snapshots from our long weekend in the Comox Valley.  Jordy traveled so well on both the transit bus and the ferry and adapted to being at my mom's house incredibly well.  It seems that Jordy and his new cousin "Charley" made fast friends and spent time playing in the sand and surf at Miracle Beach together.  I'm so happy for him that he had such a great and relaxing time that I know was so much fun for him!  We're back in the city until our next weekend on the Island, and Jordy is fast asleep on the couch (the entirety of which he seems to have claimed for himself - haha).  I can only imagine he's dreaming about his next trip away with 'mommy'...”

"I've attached a few new pictures for you to have a look and see how the little guy is doing.  He sure does love sunny days because any excuse to walk the seawall or visit the dog beach seems alright with him.  He's become rather attached to a grassy knoll on the seawall near False Creek.  Jordy just lays in the shade on the grass and watches the dragon-boaters; he's mesmerized by them, rowing back and forth.  We're headed to Courtenay this weekend for another visit to my mom's, so I'm sure he'll enjoy that also.  We have a few summer vacations planned, so he'll get to spend two whole weeks on the Island with me this summer, strolling beaches and enjoying playtime in the yard with his "cousin" Charley (my mom's dog - they get along great!).

It's neat to see that Jordy's starting to try to find his voice also.  While it's very sad that he was de-barked as a pup, he doesn't let that stop him from trying to express himself with attempts at barking - especially when he's happy and excited!  It's clear to see from his demeanor, his interactions with others and his tendencies when we're at a dog park that he's becoming more and more comfortable all the time.  I like to think he's developed a healthy attachment to me because when we're at an off-leash park, he's confident to wander 20-30 feet away and sniff at other dogs, but comes running like a rocket when he's called.  I seriously feel like my heart wants to explode into a million pieces of glitter and flowers and butterflies every time I look at him - I love Jordy so much..."
