Kylie
was surrendered to Furever After Small Dog
Rescue Society because her owner was no longer able to provide her
with the care that she needed. She was initially quite shy and
nervous, and it took her quite a while to really calm down and
settle into her foster home. But over time, her confidence
began to grow and she started to come out of her shell. She
began to play with some of the other dogs in her foster home and her
separation anxiety became a thing of the past.
After being spayed,
tattooed, micro-chipped, updated on her vaccinations and having some
dental care completed, Kylie was ready for adoption. She found
a fabulous forever home with a wonderful family of four in Surrey.
Kylie shares her new home with a canine brother named "Sam" and the
two of them get along famously.
***An
update from Kylie's family:
"Kylie
is settling in really well. Even though she has only been a
part of our family for just over two weeks, it feels as if she has
always been with us. It only took her a couple of days to stop
being nervous and adjust to the space and routines, and she learned
to use the stairs in just a couple of days as well. There were
lots of opportunities to practice as we live in a three level
townhouse. She just needed some patient coaxing and both kids
were happy to provide that for her! She was coming up 2 or 3
stairs to get a treat and the next thing we knew she followed Aniela
all the way up!
Kylie is a
real family dog. We've all fallen in love with her happy,
quirky personality. Her tail wags nonstop and she has the most
expressive ears. She sneezes after she gives you a kiss and
licks her front paws and uses them to clean her face. When she
is excited, she rubs her head on whatever soft surface she can find,
including our legs and hands. She has bonded most strongly
with Aniela, but is just as happy to curl up on any available lap.
It's quite common to come into the family room to find a human
family member sitting on the couch reading and both dogs curled up
on their legs and feet.
We have been
working on some basic obedience training with her (sit, stay, down,
etc.) and she is a quick learner. She is also learning to
relax on the leash during our daily walks and not to pull as much.
Sam is loving all the extra training because it means he gets put
through his paces at the same time as Kylie, and who could possibly
say no to liver treats! Both the dogs and the kids love to
play "hide and seek", which is a method we used to train Sam in
recall. It's hilarious watching the dogs look for the kids in
their favorite hiding places. I've also not seen her
demonstrate any separation anxiety.
Kylie and Sam
are getting along so well. They are gentle with each other and
curious about each other and very respectful of each other's
boundaries. There was the odd growl here and there during the
first week from each of them as they were getting the pack sorted
out but nothing that was troublesome. Sam regularly invites
Kylie to play, but she is not quite sure what to do with that!
She loves to chase him in the garden and at the dog park though.
They are a really good personality fit for each other.
The only
concern to date is that Kylie likes to bark at other dogs. She
is being introduced to other dogs in our complex, and I plan to take
her to an obedience class in January to help with socialization.
I think that this will also settle down in time and with some
practice and experience as she has a predominantly calm personality.
Thank you
again for the work that you do with all the dogs and the support
you've lent to us during the process of adopting Kylie. She is
a most wonderful addition to our family."
