Success Stories

Maggie was surrendered to Furever After Small Dog Rescue by her owners at the age of two because she was not a good fit for their lifestyle.  She was not receiving the time and attention that she needed and she was being confined to a crate most of the time.  We agreed to accept Maggie into our care in order to ensure that her next home would be a permanent one and that she would be spayed prior to adoption.  Miniature Dachshunds are currently a favorite choice of puppy millers and backyard breeders and we didn't want Maggie to fall prey to an unscrupulous breeder.

When Maggie came into our care, she was suffering from several anxiety related behavior issues, including separation anxiety.  After spending some time in a loving foster home, Maggie became more confident, her anxiety diminished and most of her behavior issues resolved.  While in our care, Maggie was spayed, tattooed, micro-chipped, updated on her vaccinations and her teeth were buffed and polished.

Maggie was adopted by a wonderful young couple in Vancouver who love her dearly.  Maggie's mom works mostly from home and she is able to take Maggie with her almost everywhere she goes.

***An update from Maggie’s family:

"Maggie won 1st prize in the Best Trick Contest at the 16th Annual Dachshund Picnic & Race!!!  Her trick is called 'Maggie in the Baggie' - she runs and leaps into her bag which I use to take her to my office and shopping.  The crowd loved it and shouted for an encore performance!

We are so proud of her! ;-) "

"Maggie recently celebrated her 3rd birthday by having a party at our cabin.  It's hard to remember the small, sheltered dog that we first met.  Maggie has become our fearless adventure guide and enjoys riding on the jet-ski, hiking in the mountains and rollerblading.  (I hate to admit that I got her a dog stroller so that she can come rollerblading on the seawall!)  She still loves to travel in her 'baggie' and accompanies us when shopping, going to movies and even meetings.  Maggie has joined a dachshund social group that meets once a month and she loves regular walks with her neighbor dachshund friends, Willie and Oscar.  She is quite attached to these two dogs and screams with delight when she sees them.

We can't imagine our lives without Maggie and feel so blessed to have such an amazing and adorable dog.  She has brought so much fun and happiness into our home and we love her to bits."
