Success Stories

Mocha came into our care after being surrendered to a local shelter.  She had spent her entire life confined to a crate, being bred over and over.  When her tiny, six pound body could no longer produce one more litter of puppies, she was simply discarded.  Mocha's little body was riddled with mammary tumors, which is a common occurrence  in dogs who have been over-bred.  The tumors were believed to be cancerous and it was felt that Mocha's prognosis was not good.  We took her under our wing, knowing that she might become a permanent foster dog, requiring palliative care.

But thankfully, Mocha surprised us.  She was in dire need of dental surgery, so while she was under anesthetic, we asked the vet to send some biopsies of her mammary tumors and low and behold, all of the biopsies were negative!  The tumors were benign and not life-threatening after all!

Despite Mocha's horrible past, she has the sweetest disposition you could possibly imagine.  After spending some time in a loving foster home, working on her housetraining and learning all about the joys of being a valued family member, Mocha was ready to find her forever home.  She was adopted by a wonderful lady in Victoria and the two of them have fallen madly in love.  Mocha's new mom is retired and has lots of time to spend with her---they go almost everywhere together.

***An update from Mocha's mom:

"Thanks for checking in.  Mocha and I are doing just fine!  We're definitely putting on the mileage, with all of our long walks.  She's a happy girl and charms everyone she meets.  No accidents in the house...I feel very fortunate to have Mocha as a companion; she's good company and she makes me laugh with all her funny antics."
