Monty
was
found wandering the streets; he was picked up by an
animal control officer and taken to a local shelter. He had
been horribly neglected and was in extremely poor condition.
Needless to say, nobody came forward to claim him. If they
had, they would likely have been charged with abuse. The
minute we heard about Monty, one of our volunteers was enroute to the shelter to
offer assistance.
Monty was filthy and emaciated. He was
in desperate need of medical attention. His teeth were the worst
our vet had ever seen. While Monty was under anesthetic having his
dental surgery done, the vet opted to completely shave him down---she
thought it would be cruel to try and groom him while he was awake.
He was so incredibly matted that the weight of the mats had caused
bruises and sores to form all over his body.
Just a few days after his surgery,
Monty was like a brand
new
dog---he hadn't felt so good in years! Under the care of his
loving foster mom, he started to
gain weight and thrive; he even started playing with toys! His
comical, mischievous personality began to shine through!
Unfortunately, blood work done prior to
Monty's surgery revealed that he was in the early stages of kidney
disease. Although he is still feeling well and enjoying life to
the fullest, his kidney disease
is now starting to progress. Monty has settled nicely into his
foster home and he is very much loved by his foster parents. We feel
that it would be unfair to uproot him
at this stage, knowing that his health is starting to fail, so he will
remain permanently in our foster care program.
Special
thanks to Lynn and Sharon for sponsoring Monty
and assisting with his medical costs. |
