Penny
originally came from a local puppy mill and she was incredibly
traumatized by her experiences there. When she was six
years old, she was purchased by a lady
who intended to
provide her with a loving home, but Penny was still extremely
frightened of everyone and everything and she bolted away one day.
She was running scared in a rural forested area for three weeks
before anyone was able to catch her. It's a miracle that she
survived her ordeal! Penny was then surrendered to Furever
After Small Dog Rescue as the lady felt unable to care for such a
shy and fearful little dog.
When Penny first came into
our care, she didn't want anything to do with people and she took
comfort from the other dogs in her foster home. While in
foster care, Penny was spayed and treated for ear infections,
abscessed teeth, urinary crystals and bladder infections.
Penny's dedicated foster mom provided her with plenty of TLC while
she began to heal both physically and emotionally.
Over the
course of several months, Penny gradually started to come out of her
shell and her interest in humans began to grow. Even
though she still wasn't entirely comfortable with being touched or
held, she
wanted to be within viewing distance of her foster mom and she would
"secretly" follow her from room to room, hiding under furniture so
that she wouldn't be noticed. She was making progress!
Over time, Penny slowly became more and more accepting of human
attention. Now we think she might even be starting to enjoy
it!!!
Penny was adopted by a
wonderful couple in Sidney who have plenty of time and patience to
continue working with her. She is already blossoming under
their care and her confidence is growing on a daily basis.
Special
thanks to Maureen for sponsoring
Penny
and assisting with her medical costs. |
