Quincy was
surrendered to Furever After Small Dog Rescue at the age of five,
after some dramatic changes in his guardian's life made it
impossible for her to continue providing him with the care that he
needed. Quincy was originally born in the British Virgin
Islands and he was found lying in the middle of the street at the
age of six weeks after being thrown from a moving vehicle. He
was badly injured - paralyzed from the waist down - and he spent
three months recovering in a vet's office. Thankfully, Quincy
made a full physical recovery, but the trauma and the lack of early
socialization definitely had an emotional impact on him. He
was a shy and fearful dog who startled easily and was prone to
submissive urination. A marital break-up led Quincy's guardian
to move back to Canada, but for financial reasons, she was forced to
work very long hours and Quincy ended up spending more and more time
alone and becoming more and more timid and withdrawn.
So Quincy was taken into our care and
placed in a loving foster home. He was in excellent health and
all of his veterinary care was up to date, but Quincy needed
confidence building and further socialization. Under the care
of his dedicated foster mom, Quincy truly flourished and after a
couple of months, he was ready to find his forever home.
Quincy was adopted by a wonderful family in Ladysmith where there is
always someone at home and he has four canine siblings to run and
play with.

***An
update from Quincy’s family:
"...Quincy continues to amaze us. We had no idea he has such a
talent for leaping. No need for the little stair next to the
bed - he sails over the other dogs and lands precisely beside my
mother - amazing! He truly seems happy. I have never
known a dog to fit in so quickly. He's racing around the
garden and is realizing it is all his. The cat rubs noses with
him and I am sure heaved a sigh of relief that he does not chase
her. Will stay in touch..."

"...Today, Quincy was introduced to little heart shaped healthy dog
cookies - apparently they were a big hit. He is a little
sweetheart. He snuck in the bedroom and dribbled when I came
in as he thought he was in trouble - nothing of the kind. Off
came the duvet cover and into the washing machine. We just
gave him lots of reassurance that it is his home and he can go where
he likes. My father gets on the floor and talks to him.
He has a new set of bowls because he was a little nervous of the
stainless steel. He also gets his water delivered to the
living room and he drinks leisurely with grandpa in attendance.
Thank you so much for entrusting Quincy to us..."
