Success Stories

Raven was only six months old when she was found wandering the streets and fending for herself in a northern community on Vancouver Island. Despite her difficult start in life, Raven was a happy, sociable puppy who was playful and intelligent. After being spayed and treated for Demodex (mange), Raven found a wonderful new home in Port Moody, where she is enjoying an active lifestyle and receiving the training that she needs to become a good canine citizen.

***An update from Raven's mom:

"Raven is still a very happy and active girl.  I have a dog walker come in 3x's a week for 3 hour hikes.  She is really enjoying socializing with other dogs.  On the other days we either go swimming or hiking after work.  We 2 girls are doing great!  She also loves coming to work with me and the seniors just love seeing her and vice versa.  She is such a good girl with the seniors and I think she might even been calming down."

“Raven and I have had our ups and downs.... The first year with her was a challenge.  She truly was a wild dog.  She ate furniture, clothing and slate off of the fire place.  But we have a wonderful life together, she helped me through some difficult times - she is my rock and my best buddy.

Three times a week, she goes with Auntie Diane and the dog pack for a 5 hour hike in the woods...this helps me to survive with the other nights by only walking her for an hour.  Raven is and always will be an active dog.  Last September, Raven had surgery due to a blown knee, just as she was recovering well the other knee blew.  The vet believes it is early arthritis due to poor nutrition as a puppy - how true.  She recovered and is back to normal, the only thing she can not do is jump up on my high bed...so of course I lift her up several times a night.  The money for the surgery was no question, she needed help and she was going to have it. People think I am crazy for spending thousands on her but they should know how much she means to me.  No price tag on our love.

I can't explain it...at times she is the worst dog I have ever owned and other times my dearest funniest dog I have ever owned.  She is stubborn and stamps her paws and mumbles or groans under the bed when she doesn't get her way or runs up and down logs or swims in the water (can't keep her out of a puddle even) or sometimes is caught in deep contemplation on the mountain.  At times, I think she has deeper thoughts than I do.  Socially, she goes everywhere with me...she loves seniors and when I take her to work, she knows to just sit there with the seniors and let them pet her.  She actually leans into them and it's funny because she is not a cuddly kind of girl.  She attends all family and friends’ parties.  She still believes she is a big dog and is the alpha female in the pack...making German Shepherds cry.  She still loves to smell...and roll in everything and anything she can find.  The stinkier the better.  Apparently, the vet states this means she is happy.  She is unhappy when I bathe her...and lets me know from under the bed with her moaning afterwards with a cold shoulder for a night.  I love her dearly and so does everyone that meets her.  She is the best!  I wouldn't trade her for a million bucks...if only she would stop eating my underwear!”

Special thanks to Cora and her Care Collar Fund for sponsoring Raven and assisting with her medical costs.
