Success Stories

Sara came into our care after her elderly guardians were suddenly taken away by ambulance and were unable to return to their home.  They were both suffering from dementia and had to go into a seniors' care facility.  Along with Sara, there was also another dog and a cat living in the home.  Because there were no family members living nearby, it took several days before someone was able to gain access to the home to look after the animals.  The other dog and cat were surrendered to a local shelter, but because Sara was fearful and defensive and she was barking and lunging at strangers, the shelter staff refused to accept her.  So we took her into our care and placed her in a loving foster home.

Sara had been very traumatized by her experiences and it took her quite a while to adjust to all of the changes in her life.  Under the care of her dedicated foster mom, Sara's confidence began to grow and she started to relax and enjoy life once again.  After being spayed, tattooed, micro-chipped, updated on her vaccinations and having her teeth buffed and polished, Sara was ready for adoption.  She was adopted by a lovely couple in North Saanich and she shares her new home with a canine sister named "Bonnie" and a feline sister named "Alice".

***An update from Sara's family:

"Our Sara is a love.  She is in the swing of things here now and is very content.  She loves to sleep under the covers up by my chest (I would say that she has come a long way in three short weeks) and if she gets too warm she climbs out. Her new harness works well and she keeps up a good pace. She and Bonnie get along very well. She will be on my lap in a minute when I go in to cheer on the Canucks. I went into another room this afternoon to organize the banking and Sara headed off to sleep in her bed in the living room...all on her own. That is contentment, I think. You ladies are incredible...I could never let them go. Take care and more Sara pix in the upcoming future..."

Special thanks to Mavis for sponsoring Sara and assisting with her medical costs.

Tragically, after spending just a couple of months in her new home, Sara suddenly became very ill with severe neurological symptoms.  She was in extreme pain and her family made the difficult decision to assist her in her journey to the Rainbow Bridge.
