Success Stories

Sissy was rescued from a horrendous hoarding situation where she was terribly neglected, both physically and mentally. When she came into rescue, she was shy and withdrawn. She was in desperate need of extensive dental work and treatment for corneal ulcers. However, she managed to come through it all with the will to love and the ability to trust people again. Sissy spent several months in foster care, during which time she received the care and nurturing that she needed to blossom into a sweet, affectionate girl with lots of energy and zest for life. She finally found the perfect home with a young lady in Abbotsford and now the two of them are inseparable.

***An update from Sissy’s mom:

“Just wanted to update you on Sissy....

We are having a blast together! When she isn't sleeping she is wagging her tail and running around. I took her on the boat for the first time last weekend and she was great! She just sat on my lap the whole time and enjoyed the cruise down river. We went to Harrison by boat and took her walking around the town, very well behaved other than trying to call on a great big dog that looked like a wolf! Crazy girl!

Everyone who's met her has loved her...other than the carpet cleaning guy that she didn't like either (must say I didn't trust him much). She's a great little guard dog, growls when someone comes to the door which I don't mind at all.

Most dogs she ignores, but some she tends to be a little snarly with. She hasn't had any accidents in the apartment since the first night (good girl). She has been fine around kids, but I have only introduced her to really calm, gentle older kids. She wouldn't leave my friends daughter alone the other day when we went for a BBQ. They were like two peas in a pod.

She has me trained now, which my friends think is hilarious. When I get out of the car she won't come out my side. I have to go around and open her door! I think she thinks I'm her driver! That and her cook, maid, pillow, etc....

She still follows me around everywhere I go, no more bathroom breaks by myself, but what can ya do? haha.”

Summer 2008

Two and a half years later:

“Sissy and I have been enjoying our summer on the beach or in a boat. I am curious whether or not at some point she had owners who had a boat because she certainly seems to be right at home on one! She has now claimed my friend’s boat as her own and is perfectly capable of taking a nap as we are cruising around the lake. She also has no problem taking over someone’s purse if she feels like lying down at the time. I must say she is not very picky where she makes her bed at times (as you will see her laying on my bag that is in a milk crate on the beach). As we spent most of our summer on a small island she loved having the freedom to run around without having to worry about other animals or traffic or such. There was one dog that came over on a regular basis, a cute little one year old male shih tzu, who she had no problem putting in his place! He couldn't get away with anything without her being all over him. I believe they were making a game out of it and you could certainly see how he brought the puppy back out in her! She quickly became the island mascot and everyone who came over (boat access only) just adored her. She went home for a weekend with my girlfriend (who Sissy considers her step mom) and everyone was asking where the sweet l’il doggie was.”

Special thanks to Debra and the Calendar Girls for sponsoring Sissy and assisting with her medical costs.
