Success Stories

Stewart was surrendered to our care after he was unknowingly purchased from a puppy mill through an internet transaction.  Stewart was seven years old at the time and he was essentially a "used up" breeding dog.  He was in rough shape when he arrived and the family was unable to afford the veterinary care that Stewart so desperately needed.  He had been badly neglected over the years and his mouth was horribly infected.  He had so many abscessed teeth that every single one of them had to be removed in a marathon dental surgery.  After Stewart's mouth had fully healed, he was neutered, tattooed, micro-chipped and updated on his vaccinations.

Stewart had never lived in a home environment, so his foster family had to teach him some basic manners and help him with his housetraining.  He was fearful of new situations at first, so his foster parents worked on building his confidence by gradually exposing him to new people and places.  Despite the terrible experiences that Stewart had endured in his past life, he was a sweet little guy who was still willing to trust and eager to love unconditionally.

After four months in our foster care program, Stewart found a fabulous forever home with a kind gentleman in Courtenay.  Stewart's new dad works part-time and he loves to walk, so it's a perfect match!  And Stewart gets to spend time with his two Pomeranian "girlfriends" who often come to visit.  He has an amazing new life ahead of him!

***An update from Stewart's dad:

"Stewie is doing just great and seems to have settled into my routine without any trouble whatsoever.  We have tried different foods to see what he can tolerate and what he likes and what I can spoil him with.  We do our morning walk and then our evening walk and he is a dream on a leash.  He is very happy to see me when I come home from work and probably sleeps the couple of hours that I am gone.  He was introduced to the "girls" (the poms from work) and has taken quite a liking to the little one.  Abbey, who is only two, is constantly coaxing him into playing and the yard is secure enough that they can run outside whenever they want.  So for me there are no issues.  We are extremely infatuated with each other and life is good!"
