Success Stories

Tuffy was picked up as a stray and taken to a local shelter where he spent over three months waiting to be claimed or adopted.  When we first met Tuffy, he was in pretty rough shape and we were concerned about the condition of his right eye.  Tuffy had never been neutered and while in the shelter, he was noted to be a "marker", which made him even less adoptable.  Due to our concerns about his health and the lack of adoption prospects, Tuffy was taken into our care and placed in a loving foster home.  Shortly after coming into rescue, Tuffy's right eyeball prolapsed and he required surgical intervention to repair his eye.  It took two months for Tuffy's eye to heal completely, but thankfully there was no permanent damage and his vision was not affected.

While in foster care, we discovered that Tuffy was completely deaf and likely had been since birth, but he had adapted very efficiently to his disability and was very well focused on his "person" whom he would always look to for direction.  Once Tuffy had been neutered, the "marking" immediately came to a stop and from that day forward, his housetraining was impeccable.  After being updated on his vaccinations and having some much needed dental care completed, Tuffy was ready for adoption.  It took a while to find the perfect home for Tuffy, but it was definitely worth the wait!  Tuffy was adopted by a wonderful lady in Vancouver and he is now enjoying an amazing new life!

***An update from Tuffy's family:

"All continues to go very well. Tuffy has become even more snuggly with all his humans. He has taken to rolling over and presenting his tummy with us when we approach him for a pat, so he spends a lot of time on his back just now. He even falls asleep that way sometimes. I think he has decided that he's sure of us now, and our roles as his companions.

Things went very well with my niece and nephew this weekend. My nephew was quite taken with Tuffy - the first dog he was not scared of! Tuffy was quite tired on Sunday when he met the kids, so he was super calm. My niece just followed him around, as he usually does with us! It was very cute, and an interesting reversal for him. She sat on the balcony beside him while he napped, watching him in absolute fascination.

When it is hot, as it has been lately, Tuffy needs more breaks, so we take him on shorter, more frequent walks. He is always very peppy for our first thing in the morning walk however, because it is cool then. He loves romping in the grass, and rolling around. We have so much fun!"
