Pet Lovers Lane

The 4th Annual Pet Lovers Lane Trade Show was held at the Curling Rink at the Courtenay Fairgrounds on June 11 '11.  Jane Neve of Canine Conduct did an excellent job of organizing the event, which featured exhibits of pet-related products and services as well as demos and workshops.  We were invited to have a booth at Pet Lovers Lane, which was a wonderful way to help get the word out about our organization and the great dogs that we have available for adoption.  We also had raffle tickets and pet supplies for sale, with proceeds going directly towards helping the dogs in our care.  It was a really fun day and we enjoyed many visits from our adopters, volunteers and supporters.  We're already looking forward to next year's event!

Vancouver Island Pet Expo

The Vancouver Island Pet Expo was held at Pearkes Recreation Centre in Victoria on May 28 & 29 '11.  The event was a great success!  It was organized by Jill Stefanyk and some of the goals were to promote responsible pet ownership and to help draw attention to abandoned pets available for adoption.  We had a lot of fun at our booth, meeting new people and spreading the word about our organization and the work that we do, as well as the wonderful dogs that we have available for adoption.  We also had games & prizes, raffle tickets and pet supplies for sale, with all proceeds benefitting our foster dogs.  We had so much fun that we're already making plans for next year's expo!

Lola Turns Four!

Happy 4th Birthday Lola!  Thank you so much for donating your birthday money to help the dogs for the fourth year in a row!  You and your mommy are very special people and you have made a REALLY BIG difference in the lives of our foster dogs!

Merry Christmas!!!

We would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Courtenay Veterinary Clinic, who decided to play "Secret Santa" this year!  All through the month of December, they collected donations of food, treats, toys and other supplies to help make the season brighter for our foster dogs.  They also held a raffle and donated the proceeds to Furever After Small Dog Rescue!

And thank you so much to the kind staff at Puntledge Veterinary Clinic in Courtenay, who were also in the Christmas spirit!  They held a raffle over the holiday season and donated the money they raised to help the dogs in our care.

We also received a generous donation of pet supplies from the amazing folks at HugABull Advocacy and Rescue Society as part of their Loki's Christmas Wish Fund.  Our dogs were completely spoiled and they had the best Christmas ever!  We really appreciate your support!

My Best Christmas in Calgary

"For years I have shared stories of dog and animal rescue and pictures of the many little foster dogs that have come through my house as a foster mum with Furever After with my three young nieces in Calgary.  Although they always seemed to enjoy the good stories, feel sad about the sad stories, and ask to see more pictures, I had no idea the impact rescue had made on them until this past Christmas.

During my Christmas visit to Calgary, we were at the end of my youngest niece's piano recital and milling about in the lobby.  Suddenly I found myself surrounded by six little girls telling me they had something to give me.  I was expecting a Christmas craft, or maybe to be told a joke, but certainly not to be presented with a cheque for $250.00 made out to Furever After Small Dog Rescue!

I soon found out that my three nieces, Megan (12), Mariah (11) and Amber (8) and their three sister friends, Natalie (11), Hailey (10) and Vanessa (7) had gotten together over the last few months and decided to raise money to help Furever After's dogs.  Wow!  They spent many an evening and weekend walking the neighborhood dogs, raking leaves, gardening and shoveling snow.  What generous neighbors these girls have!  Once their "clients" started to learn what the girls were raising money for, toonies and loonies became five dollar bills.  According to their parents, "they really worked their little butts off".

Needless to say, I was stunned and delighted by their warm hearted and unselfish act of kindness toward Furever After's dogs in need.

I believe they were hoping to see Auntie Lynn tear up when they presented me with their gift and I can tell them, writing about it now, has done just that."

An Update from CAAT

The Canadian Animal Assistance Team held their third animal wellness clinic on the Ittatsoo First Nations Reserve in Ucluelet on November 27 and 28 '10.  This was the first time that the medical and surgical equipment purchased by Furever After was put into action and it proved to be a very busy and successful weekend.  Over the course of two days, 40 dogs and cats were spayed/neutered and 70 were vaccinated and de-wormed!  The community was so thankful for all that the team had done for their pets that they gave them freshly caught salmon to take home with them.  CAAT is planning another animal wellness clinic which will be held in Burns Lake this June.

First Annual Rescue Awareness Day at Your Pet Pals

Your Pet Pals' First Annual Rescue Awareness Day was held on August 29 '10.  The fog lifted just as we finished setting up and what a gorgeous day it was!  Many different rescue organizations were represented including groups who assist small animals, pigs, cats and various sizes and breeds of dogs.  Victoria Lost Pets and Shut Down Puppy Mills were also there in full force, along with many local pet-related businesses.

It was great to meet everyone, including Mitch from Natural Balance, who was cooking up veggie burgers with all of the proceeds going to the participating rescue groups!  Event attendees spent the day learning about all of the different rescues and businesses, poring over sidewalk sale items and browsing through Your Pet Pals store.  Two thousand dollars in donation money was raised and will be distributed amongst the rescue organizations who were at the event.

We would like to say a big thank you to Your Pet Pals and their wonderful staff, family and friends who donated their time for the day.  It was a great success and we are all looking forward to next year!

Lexie's Pop Stand

Tail wags and puppy kisses go out to ten-year-old Lexie.  Her summer soda stand fetched a much appreciated donation to Furever After dogs in need.  She worked many dog day afternoons throughout the summer selling a variety of sodas and candy bags.  Lexie also set up a recycling bin and reports that she will be making yet another donation upon returning the cans to the recycle depot.  Biscuits go to her parents, who built her stand and supervised her first business enterprise.  Lexie’s family has two dogs named Bodie and Chico who are both rescues.  She wants every dog to have a loving home and knows first hand how important medical care is.  Lexie donated to “help a dog feel better and get to go to a vet” and we are extremely grateful for her fundraising efforts!

Beer & Burger Fundraiser

Our Beer & Burger Fundraiser was held on May 15 '10 at Boston Pizza in Nanaimo.  It was a casual, fun-filled evening and we enjoyed delicious food and excellent company.  There were lots of games and prizes to keep everyone entertained throughout the evening.  Due to the wonderful support we received, we were able to raise some much needed funds to help with some of our vet bills.  We would like to express our appreciation to our sponsor, Bark & Fitz (Nanaimo), and to everyone who supported this fundraiser by purchasing tickets and/or donating items and services for the silent auction.  Special thanks to Carrie, who organized the entire event and did an amazing job!

"The Canadian Animal Assistance Team (C.A.A.T.) is extremely grateful to Furever After for so generously purchasing much needed equipment for use on our British Columbia Animal Wellness Clinics.  Diagnostic, surgical and anesthetic monitoring equipment will enable C.A.A.T.'s veterinarians to provide quality medical procedures and sterilization surgeries to animals in remote locations."

Thank You Lola!

Dear Lola,

Thank you very much for your wonderful gift.  I am already feeling so much better, especially after seeing pictures from your fun pink birthday party. I feel very lucky to have a friend like you because not many little girls would ask for donations for me instead of birthday presents.

I came to Furever After from a puppy mill, and I had a really sore mouth and lots of other owies & boo-boo’s. Because of your kind gift I got to go to the doctor and now my mouth is feeling better and I won’t have to make any more babies!

Lola, thank you so much for thinking of me and I want you to always know how special you are and that you have changed my life.

Kisses and Cuddles,

Stewart  ~a very happy foster dog

Merry Christmas!

Thanks to the generous donations we received from some amazing pet supply companies, we were able to share some toys, treats and supplies with local shelters this Christmas season.  We participated in Hug A Bull Rescue's "Loki's Christmas Wish Fund" and donated items to both the CRD Pound and the Duncan SPCA.  We are so glad that we were able to make the holidays a little bit brighter for some local shelter dogs.

Christmas Raffle Basket Fundraiser

Our Christmas Raffle Basket Fundraiser was an enormous success this year!  The basket was filled to the brim with top quality dog toys, treats and accessories and every dog lover in town was hoping to win it!  The draw took place on December 19 '09 and the lucky winner was Kelly Cook from Chilliwack.  Congratulations Kelly!

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lori and her staff at Your Pet Pals in Victoria for all of their incredible help with this raffle.  Special thanks to Wendi for helping out with ticket sales on the mainland.  And last, but certainly not least, thanks to Jenn for organizing this fundraiser and for putting this amazing basket together!

Nail Clipping By Donation

On December 5 '09, the caring folks from Courtenay Veterinary Clinic teamed up with the kind staff from Woofy's Pet Foods (Cliffe Avenue Store) and held a pet nail clipping clinic by donation to benefit the dogs in our care.  All of the proceeds from this fundraising event were used to purchase Woofy's gift cards, which in turn will be used to purchase food, treats and supplies for our foster dogs.  We would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time to help with this event.  We really appreciate your support!  Special thanks to Suzanne for her generous contribution to help the dogs.

Fall Fiesta Fundraiser

Thanks a Million!

A very special thank you to Frank Hladik and Arlene Howard of Qualicum Beach.  On April 19 '09, this generous couple hosted a beautiful brunch and asked their guests to find it in their hearts to donate food and supplies for our foster dogs.  It's people like Frank and Arlene who give us the motivation to continue our work, even when times get tough.

Happy Birthday Lola!

Lola turned two on February 20 '09.  For the second year in a row, Lola and her mom, Barbara, requested that family and friends make a donation to Furever After Small Dog Rescue in lieu of birthday presents.  Lola raised well over $100 to help dogs in need.  Thank you SO much Lola, Barbara and friends!  Your kindness and generosity is an inspiration to all of us.

West Coast Christmas Pet & Craft Fair 2008

We had a booth at the West Coast Christmas Pet & Craft Fair, which was held on November 29 & 30 '08 at the Agri-Plex in Cloverdale.  This annual event is fun for the whole family and features Christmas crafts, animal rescue fundraisers, pictures with Santa, agility competitions and demonstrations by the K-9 Pacesetters Drill Team.  Dogs are always welcome on-leash.
